Welcome to Stonehenge 3D!

Stonehenge 3D is a site to showcase the output of an ongoing project into the recreation of archaeologically accurate and useful reconstructions of the Neolithic/Early Bronze Age (EBA) monumental architecture, each embedded in the local terrain. The integration of the astronomy software allows viewing horizon astronomical alignments in relation to the digitally recreated monumental architecture. This work shows how modern virtual modelling techniques can be a tool for testing archaeoastronomical hypotheses, as well as a demonstrative tool for teaching and promoting archaeoastronomy in mainstream media. The method allows the user to position themselves within the environment and explore the relationships between parts thereof as if they were actually there. The method also allows for us to test archaeoastronomical hypotheses by simply watching the event simulated in real time, giving at the same time an enhanced idea of the visual impact of any proposed alignments on the architecture itself.
